Therapy For Teens
Why Teens?
Teenagers face unique challenges that can be difficult for their parents to understand or help with.
They deal with different struggles from adults due to their often busy schedules, large amount of homework, difficulty making friends, lack of privacy and safety, or lack of resources.
Personally, I didn’t think I would like working with teens when I just started out. But when I took on my first teen, that was it. I feel honored to connect with teens as a helpful adult in a different way from parents, teachers, or mentors.
I’m here to help teens in the way they both want and need.
How It Works
I have strict rules about what I will and won’t share with parents. I ONLY share things that are high risk including suicidal ideation with methods, self-harm behavior, and eating disorders/substance use that I determine needs additional support that I can’t provide.
If parents ask me what we discuss during therapy, I will give nonspecific answers of “coping skills”, “current stress”, and “school” and decline to provide more detail.
By having these guidelines of confidentiality, I balance both the parent’s and teen’s trust in me. Browse my website on more information on fees, therapeutic techniques I use, and specialty issues I treat or contact me for a free 15-minute consultation here.
I only take teens in-person, at least to start, due to the importance of establishing a strong therapeutic relationship.
I provide school notes if the teen leaves school early to make a session. If you're looking for strictly virtual therapy for your teen, please let me know and I can provide trusted referrals (or add you to my waitlist).
I also only take teens whose parents are married, or if parents are divorced both parents must consent to therapy and provide custody paperwork.
